Strum, Strike and Blow

Wow, what a wonderful night. The children were just fantastic during the morning practice and were equally brilliant during the evening performance. Check out some of our photos from the morning and evening sessions.


A big thank you to all the parents who came along to watch in the evening. It was a real adventure being able to catch the bus and all head off to the CBS arena. The children were very excited about going but were even more excited knowing that the moon would be out when they came out of the Arena.

Koi Te Hinengaro

Last Friday we had the last day of our Koi Te Hinengaro Activities (Sharpen the Mind). The children have really enjoyed sharing new activities and stretching their boundaries. Here are some pictures of the children doing their different activities.

Daily 3 Maths

Over the last two months the children have been learning how to work independently during Maths time. Our Maths program me has three components that we explore

Maths by Self - this choice uses technology to help with maths problems. Here Shikha is using an ipad to help sort shapes into a picture.

Maths with Someone - this choice gives the children a chance to explore Maths with others. They choose from group boxes or from the classroom shelves a Maths Activity.

Kelly and Shafrin are playing with the Monkeys. They are using words to describe colors, numbers, adding and bigger and smaller.

Toby and Savou are playing with the dinosaurs. They are using language like, bigger and smaller, same and different and counting

Red Nose Day

The children have  been learning about sharing ideas to stretch the boundaries. Last week the children decided to donate towards RED NOSE DAY. We had a mufti day and everyone tried to dress in red. We talked about what Red Nose Day means and how our sharing (donation) will help others in our community who are sick.  The children really got into the spirit of giving and sharing.  Well done, Room 1!

Antarctic Visit

On Wednesday 21st August the whole school went out to visit the Antarctic Centre. We had a lot of fun watching penguins, playing in the snow room, looking at the Antarctic Museum, going for a ride on the Hagglunds, watching a movie in 4D and watching our friend Tai get all dressed up in Antarctic clothes.

Thank you to all the parents who came and looked after us. Thanks to Jane and Laurel from the Antarctic Centre for showing us around and teaching us about the penguins and the Antarctic.

Start of the New Term

Hi everyone,

Sorry this has taken me sometime to get up and running again with the blog but I am learning new things and hopefully being able to put it into the blog.  This term we are looking at working together and sharing our ideas to stretch the boundaries. 

For the first week the children in Room 1 chose to share a talent they had. Tristan shared his soccer skills, Rahil his rugby skills, Shafrin and Savou and Matua Nicholas taught us how to count in Arabic, Fijian and French. Kelly taught us a karakia. De-Ellah demonstrated her talent on the Monkey bars and Shikha showed us how she could write a lot of words.

Week Two and the children have been learning new skills from the teachers. Koi te hinengaro started on Friday (Strengthen the mind) and the children were baking, using sign language, making robots move, building a school world on the computer, learning how to make music using an apple application called Garageband and being outdoors and working together to solve problems.  

Wow and this is only the beginning of the term.

Next week we have the Antarctic Visit and a little reminder that the children will need to bring very warm jackets, hats and gloves if possible. Many thanks to those parents who have offered to help on this trip.

Term 2

We have a very full term starting with our Science Alive visit on Monday.  For the next two weeks we will be focusing on our Science unit and the children will be learning how to write instructions so they can write out science experiments. The children will also be looking at predicting what happens next or predicting what might happen if we change something in the experiment.

We are lucky to be have Paul in our classes on Friday for the term teaching the children how to play the ukelele. We had our first lesson last week and the children really enjoyed trying to playing ‘We Will Rock You’ by Queen.

QUILTS

Last week we had a very special visit from Hugs All Around. They are a group of ladies from Avebury House who make quilts. These wonderful ladies made a special named quilt for every child in our school. Thank you so very much for your kind gift and kind thoughts.

UNIFORMS
Yesterday every child was given a school sports uniform. Thanks to to Whaea Jacq for the awesome gift. Children are able to wear this uniform or the school uniform for the winter months.

SCIENCE ALIVE

We had a wonderful time yesterday exploring science and working out who made the mess in the Three Bears House. We looked at footprints, handwriting and acidity of different foods.  Look at our photos.
